<p>The effort to avert a government shutdown is coming down to the wire, with the October 1 deadline around the corner. While a bipartisan effort was made in the Senate, House Republicans swiftly rejected any notion of putting that bill to a vote on the floor. Questions have arisen as to what other possibilities are left to avoid a government shutdown. Representative Marc Molinaro (R-NY) joins Yahoo Finance to explain what is going on in the halls of Congress that is preventing progress to avert a potentially dangerous shutdown.</p> <p>Molinaro explains that part of the Republican hold out is to rein in federal spending from the Democrats, saying the &quot;only way we can finish putting forward this responsible plan for reigning in federal spending is to include a short-term funding opportunity to keep the government functioning while we focus also aggressively on border security.&quot;</p> Source
