Podemos is a left-wing political party in Spain. It was founded in 2014 by writer, professor, and talk show guest Pablo Iglesias. He is currently a member of the European Parliament, and was elected to the party-list of Podemos in primary elections. It participated in the 2014 European Parliament elections. The party received about 8% of the vote, even though it was merely four months old at the time. Its party list, which was the 4th most voted, was fully composed and ordered by primary elections, in which anybody could be a candidate and vote. Podemos is currently the second Spanish party by number of members; it became the third within the first 20 days it allowed membership, with 100,000 signing up in that time, and currently has more than 200,000.
