How a 12-Year-Old is Taking on AG Jeff Sessions in Fight to Legalize Medical Marijuana▼

A 12-year-old girl is leading a campaign to legalize medical marijuana nationwide. Alexis Bortell says her family had to move from Texas to Colorado so she could treat her severe epilepsy with medical marijuana, legally. Bortell, with her parents as guardians, hasvsued Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the DEA calling for "cannabis for the treatment of their illnesses, diseases and medical conditions." Cannabis Now's Associate Editor Greg Zeman discusses his outlook for this case. Zeman says he initially thought this case would be dismissed back in October, but it is now moving forward to a trial in federal court. Zeman says now he thinks the case will have a significant role in decriminalizing marijuana. Alexis Bortell and her family are one of five plaintiffs, including an Iraq War veteran with PTSD, and former New York Jets player Marvin Washington. This case could open the floodgates for more people to join the fight to legalize medical marijuana. One of the most compelling aspects of this case is seeing the Bortell family as "medical refugees" in their own country says Zeman. Only 60 percent of Americans live in places with access to medical marijuana, according to Zeman. Source
